About us

DC Bed & Breakfast traces a history laden with a rich heritage. The house was originally built by Chevalier Joy Joseph (a prominent personality in Kottayam, currently the Chairman of Kannan Devan) in the 1920s and bought-over by the publishing doyen Late DC Kizhekemuri (Padma Bhushan Recipient) in 1991. The building has since been renovated and aesthetically extended. Managed by DC Books, the first ISO 9002 certified Indian Publishing and Book Marketing Company, you can rest assured of superior quality accommodation, state-of-the-art facilities and the finest hospitality services.

The name 'Gitanjali':
DC Bed & Breakfast has been christened ‘Gitanjali’ (meaning ‘An Offering of Songs’ in Sanskrit) after the ‘Nobel Prize’ winning book of 103 English Poems, largely translations, by the Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore. We have been truly inspired by these Song Offerings and strive to work towards perfection, providing an environment “where the mind is without fear and the head is held high; Where knowledge is free; Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls…” Located in Kottayam - popularly referred to as 'The Land of Letters' owing to its literary background, the name 'Gitanjali' seems only too perfect.

Architecture & Style:
A confluence of the old and the new with exquisite interiors, ceilings and furniture, four rooms have been furnished in the traditional Syrian Christian style and three in the luxurious Chettinad style using Burmese teak.

'Who's Who' Guest List:
We have had the privilege to play host to eminent personalities like the erstwhile President of India Late K.R.Narayanan and First Lady Mrs. Usha Narayanan, renowned Diplomat Mr. Sashi Tharoor, Trustee of Infosys Foundation Mrs. Sudha Murthy and several other celebrities and VIPs.
